Some of you might have had a tour of Maritime House over the summer break. I imagine you were very impressed: by the Home Bases, The Race Restaurant and the beautiful original entrance hall. I can imagine too that you went in to the agoras and courtyards and could envisage the students playing and and socialising happily. I know I could. But I imagine too, like me, you might have gone through our Performance and Creative areas and thought "Heavens - what a lot of stuff! What a lot still to do!"
Unpacking (and packing) was hard. Tiring, messy, time consuming. There were moments of disgruntlement, times when the task seemed monumental. But slowly we could get a sense of what the learning spaces might be like . And with each box of instruments, pair of headphones I became more excited about the phenomenal experiences our learners - young and adult - would experience. It also became more and more apparent what an amazing team of teachers we have in our area. Not just a team that helps students to fantastic GCSE, BTEC and A level successes but a team of professionals that work incredibly hard and tirelessly for and with each other . A team with a deep seated desire to see students express themselves, excel and exceed all their expectations of themselves.
As our first projects get underway I am so very excited about the year and years ahead and seeing our students do great things. Watch this space.......
PS. Keep it quiet, just between you and me. BUT. If you have ever thought that you might like to try to learn an instrument but haven't, the opportunity will be coming up shortly. No need to buy an instrument, all you need is the commitment to try. More details coming soon.
